2007 Education Satisfaction Survey

The 2006/2007 Satisfaction with Education in Alberta Survey is a set of seven surveys conducted to assess satisfaction with key features of Alberta's education system. The surveys obtained opinions from senior high school students, parents of K-12 students, parents of children with severe special needs, teachers, school board members, superintendents and the public.

Summary Report: Satisfaction with Education in Alberta Survey

Key Findings

  • 99% of students were satisfied with the quality of education, followed by teachers (94%), board members (93%), parents (K-12: 91%, severe special needs: 84%) and public (74%).

  • 97% of teachers, 96% of students, 93% of board members, 88% of parents of children with severe special needs and 87% of parents of K-12 students were satisfied with the quality of teaching.

  • 94% of superintendents, 93% of board members, 75% of teachers, 72% of parents of children with severe special needs and 70% of parents of K-12 students indicated that the quality of education at schools has improved or stayed the same in the past 3 years.

  • 93% of students were satisfied that the education system meeting their needs and expectations, followed by board members (78%), parents (severe special needs: 74%, K-12: 71%), teachers (64%) and public (61%).

  • 92% of teachers, 91% of board members and 83% of parents of K-12 students were satisfied with the opportunity for parental involvement in decisions about child’s education.

  • 92% of students, 90% of teachers, 86% of board members, 86% of parents of K-12 students, 78% of parents of severe special needs and 63% of public agreed that students are learning what they need to know.

  • 91% of teachers and 83% of parents (K-12) were satisfied that students are taught the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for lifelong learning.

  • 86% of teachers, 81% of board members, 75% of parents (K-12) and 46% of the general public were satisfied that students are taught attitudes and behaviours to be successful at work when they leave school.

  • 86% of parents (K-12) were satisfied with their access to information about their child’s educational progress and achievements.

  • 79% of parents of children with severe special needs, 72% of parents of K-12 students, and 55% of general public were satisfied that they are receiving value for the money spent in schools.

  • 70% of superintendents, 57% of board members, 56% of parents of K-12 students and 45% of teachers agreed that leadership at provincial level effectively supports and facilitates teaching and learning.

  • 56% of board members, 53% of parents with severe special needs students, 51% of public and 48% of parents of K-12 students and teachers agreed that Alberta Education system communicates effectively with the public.
