Supporting Innovative Classrooms
In June 2008, Alberta Education issued a Call for Proposals for Alberta school jurisdictions and charter schools to research innovative practices in the areas of technology management and leadership development for the effective use of technology. After an extensive and competitive evaluation process, 26 projects were selected to be part of this initiative.
The Supporting Innovative Classrooms initiative involved jurisdiction administrators, principals, teachers and technical support staff from 29 jurisdictions. The projects took place over the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 school years and supported recent investments in school technology.
Projects explored one of five themes that included:
- Enhancing educational technology leadership capacity;
- Enhancing information technology leadership capacity;
- Software as a service;
- Innovative technology management solutions; and
- Shared services solutions.
The Supporting Innovative Classrooms projects supported the Innovative Classrooms Technology Funding announced in Budget 2008. This funding was provided to help meet Education’s vision that all Alberta classrooms support innovative teaching and learning.
