Supporting Innovative Classrooms

In June 2008, Alberta Education issued a Call for Proposals for Alberta school jurisdictions and charter schools to research innovative practices in the areas of technology management and leadership development for the effective use of technology. After an extensive and competitive evaluation process, 26 projects were selected to be part of this initiative.

The Supporting Innovative Classrooms initiative will involve jurisdiction administrators, principals, teachers, and technical support staff from 29 jurisdictions. The projects will take place over the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 school years and support recent investments in school technology.

Projects are exploring one of five themes that include:

  • Enhancing educational technology leadership capacity;
  • Enhancing information technology leadership capacity;
  • Software as a service;
  • Innovative technology management solutions; and
  • Shared services solutions.
Each project will be evaluated at the local level, and Alberta Education will also be conducting research into promising practices.

The Supporting Innovative Classrooms projects support the Innovative Classrooms Technology Funding announced in Budget 2008. This funding will help meet Education’s vision that all Alberta classrooms support innovative teaching and learning.
