Purpose To improve students' achievement and attitudes towards mathematics. 
Description Provide teachers with opportunities to investigate how children learn mathematics and implement research-based instructional practices that support the development of mathematical reasoning. Job-embedded professional development will be a focus of the project.

10003 Supporting Literacy at Westminster 
Lethbridge School District No. 51 
First Year Funding: $21,815
Major Focus: Literacy
Scope: 140 Students, Grades K to 4, 1 School 
Purpose To increase students' literacy skills by increasing the amount of time students spend reading at school through the provision of one-on-one tutoring and encouraging parents to engage in meaningful literacy experiences with their children at home. 
Description Implement research-proven early intervention strategies such as the Early Literacy program to improve the reading skills of identified students by providing one-one-one instruction with classroom assistants. Literacy packages will be developed so parents can engage in meaningful literacy activities with their children at home. Parents will then be encouraged to volunteer in the school as a tutor, both for their children and others.

Purpose To improve student literacy and numeracy and enhance student learning by building teacher capacity. 
Description Establish learning communities to build teacher capacity focusing on literacy and numeracy, student learning and engagement, and improving programs and services in order to improve student achievement.

10005 Technology Enhanced Academic Movement 
Lethbridge School District No. 51 
First Year Funding: $134,742
Major Focus: Technology
Scope: 2700 Students, Grades 9 to 12, 2 Schools 
Purpose To enhance the learning of students through the use of media rich courseware. 
Description Prepare a collection of media rich learning objects and the development of courseware to augment the learning process for all students in two high schools. Staff will examine pedagogical practices to enhance the creation of these resources.

10006 Full Day Kindergarten in High Needs Schools

First Year Funding: $637,500
Major Focus: Early Intervention
Scope: 400 Students, Grade K, 18 Schools 
Purpose To develop and improve early literacy skills, increase sense of self-worth, foster independence and decision making skills, and encourage positive attitudes towards learning in students identified as "high needs". 
Description Implement full-day literacy based kindergarten programs for schools identified as having students with high needs.
