30003 Kids First - Phonetic Literacy

Purpose To improve the reading, spelling and speech skills of grades 1 and 2 students who are diagnosed below reading level by at least one Grade Equivalent. 
Description Offer intensive individualized and differentiated instruction to students identified as being behind in their ELA GE and who would benefit from a "reading recovery" type of instructional strategy focusing on phonics. Classroom teachers will continue to provide reading, speaking and spelling assistance to each student in the other core subjects when the student returns to the regular classroom.

Strategies include diagnostic assessment, small group and one-on-one instruction, and differentiated instruction.
