International Education Week 2011: November 14-18

International Education Week (IEW) is an annual, week-long event celebrated during the third week of November by over 85 countries around the world. IEW is an initiative under the Council of Minister of Education, Canada and is recognized by other provincial/territorial governments and various non-governmental organizations active in international education.

IEW provides an opportunity to celebrate and showcase the rich variety of innovative programs and activities that expose students to an international dimension which enriches their learning and prepares them for global citizenship. It is also an excellent way to celebrate local and international collaborations with our education partners and foster new relationships.

Alberta Education has actively participated in IEW since 2006 and a Provincial International Education Week Committee was created in December 2010 to further raise the awareness of IEW across the province.

To help you celebrate IEW across Alberta and communicate the importance of international education, the Provincial International Education Week Committee has developed several items for you to use.  Make sure to check out the Toolkit, interesting
international education initiatives taking place in our province, and a fact sheet.  Also be sure to visit the Promotional Material section, where you will find IEW posters, logo, and much more.

Alberta youth are also invited to share their ideas about global citizenship and connecting with the world at the Speak Out online discussion board. We want to hear about your thoughts on international education and global engagement.
