Symposium Rationale:

As Alberta moves forward into the 21st century, the learning system will see many new challenges and opportunities that will require us to learn our way through them.  We will need to meet these challenges and opportunities with ingenuity and a commitment to work together through better research and continuous improvement in practice to prepare our children for a new Alberta.

This symposium should be viewed as the first step of a process and the beginning of a dialogue in knowledge-sharing, dissemination and mobilization. This symposium may generate discussion that will lead to further questions for exploration including opportunities for knowledge mobilization and sharing of research and how research results can be utilized and applied to the learning experience.

Symposium Objectives:

  • Identify current research priorities and themes related to learning that are emerging in our respective organizations;
  • Share ideas about longer term research priorities that will enhance student learning in the province;
  • Explore opportunities for partnership and collaboration, including public partnerships that will support educational research capacity at all levels of the learning system;

Expected Symposium Outcome:

If Albertans are to create the kind of future we desire as forward-thinking and a truly adaptive society, how can research on learning related to the ECS-grade 12 system help co-create the kind of Alberta and Albertans we want?

Expected Symposium Deliverables:

  • The establishment of a community of education researchers in Alberta;
  • The creation of more research partnerships and a community of knowledge sharing;
  • An agenda of common research interests which will help move Alberta’s ECS-grade 12 system forward.
