Alberta High School Student Outcomes

Diploma Examination Participation Rates

Updated September 2008

Diploma Examination participation rates for Alberta students are calculated by tracking Grade 10 students for three years and determining the number of diploma examinations each student has written. Participation rates are calculated for writing one or more to six or more diploma examinations by the end of their third year in high school.

Obtaining credit in two diploma examination courses (language arts and social studies) is a requirement for high school graduation in Alberta. The percentage of students who wrote four or more exams is a good indication that students have a solid foundation in the four core subject areas – language arts, mathematics, sciences and social studies.  It is an Accountability Pillar and Ministry business plan measure.  Diploma exam participation rate graph
