Celebrate Canada's birthday by exploring our nation's past

"Some say to me: 'History? What does it mean? What are you concerned about the past for?' And my answer to that is a simple one - he who does not know the past can never understand the present, and he certainly can do nothing for the future."
John George Diefenbaker, November 1, 1971*

Edmonton…Canada Day is fast approaching and exploring Canada's history is a great way to celebrate our nation's birthday. Alberta Learning invites you to test your knowledge and get a glimpse of what students learn about Canadian history by taking a fun quiz at www.education.gov.ab.ca/canadadayquiz. You will also find facts about the social studies curriculum and links to Web sites that support learning about Canada's history.

Alberta has an excellent social studies curriculum that gives students the opportunity to study people in relation to each other and to their world. It helps them develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to become engaged, active, informed and responsible Canadian citizens.

Take the quiz, refresh your knowledge of Canadian history and have fun celebrating Canada's 136th birthday.
