2012-13 New School Openings

During the last few weeks of August, Premier Alison M. Redford, Education Minister Jeff Johnson, Infrastructure Minister Wayne Drysdale and government MLAs toured a number of the 15 new schools that have opened or will be opening for the 2012-13 school year.

Government officials were joined by parents, students and community members at large for the events, which were generously organized and warmly hosted by the local school jurisdictions and school staff.

Almost 13,000 students and their families in communities across Alberta have new schools in their neighbourhoods for the 2012-13 school year, due to the Redford government’s commitment to education.

An additional K-4, 200-student capacity school is also expected to open in Airdrie this school year.

“Albertans have told us that education is a priority; schools such as these 15 new facilities will allow our teachers to provide excellent learning opportunities to our children. The students who come to these schools will receive the highest level of public education and be set on a path to fulfill their potential.”

Premier Alison M. Redford

“These schools are so much more than just bricks and mortar for the thousands of students who will attend; they are places where they will learn,  discover and grow. An educated society is a vibrant, prosperous one and investments in schools in our growing communities are really investments in our collective future.”

Jeff Johnson, Minister of Education

“These world-class facilities will serve Alberta’s students and communities for generations to come. I commend all the partners involved in these new school projects for providing our students and these communities with excellent facilities to inspire learning.”

– Wayne Drysdale, Minister of Infrastructure
