The School Act Review
The Proposed Education Act
Since 2008, Alberta Education has been actively engaging Albertans in discussions around the future of education through several key initiatives. Public and stakeholder input gathered from Inspiring Education: a Dialogue with Albertans, Inspiring Action, and Setting the Direction has been used to inform legislative proposals that will form a new education act.
The new act will replace the current School Act and will reflect public expectations of a strong education system that ensures the rights, needs and expectations of individuals and groups are in balance with those of society as a whole. The proposed legislation will allow the education system to be more flexible and able to respond to the diverse learning needs of students more quickly and effectively.
The proposed Education Act will be introduced during the spring session of the Alberta Legislature. Visit the
Alberta Legislative Assembly website to view the status of all provincial legislation and check back here for more information on the proposed Education Act and when it will be introduced in the Assembly.
