Celebrate Arts Days!
Arts Days are an opportunity for all Albertans to celebrate our artists and demonstrate our strong community spirit. Albertans are encouraged to participate by discovering, experiencing and celebrating our province’s vibrant artistic landscape.
In honor of Arts Days 2009, Minister Dave Hancock has issued a challenge to all schools to find innovative and creative ways to celebrate the arts in our classrooms or schools on September 18.
To be a part of the challenge:

Plan something for your classroom, your school or your school and community to celebrate Alberta Arts Days. Use the Idea File for Schools / Journées des arts en Alberta for ideas.

Register your school event on our Events Calendar

On September 18 get as many people involved as you can in celebrating the arts

After your event, upload digital photos or short video clips of what you created or celebrated to our Virtual Gallery to share with the world.

Your classroom or school will receive a certificate from the government thanking you for your participation in the Arts Day Challenge 2009.
Celebrating the arts doesn’t necessarily mean putting on a play or concert. Celebrating the arts could also include: observation and appreciation of performing arts, life-long learning in the arts, or engagement in the creative process.

Engage students in discussion about their artistic works in progress and their sources of inspiration.

Write a poem, create a picture, write a short story – it can be about anything

Learn about a classic artist, writer, musician, dancer or performer
- Host a drama workshop
- Share dance performances from a variety of cultures
- Invite a local artist from the community to discuss the arts with students
- Research careers in design and how the skills of the arts apply to the world of work
- Take part in a dance-a-thon, battle of the bands showcase or a talent show
- Attend and reflect on a art gallery visit or a drama production
- Experiment with technology to create a unique artistic statement
