The First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) Services Branch and the Aboriginal Policy Branch collaborate with FNMI communities and organziations to support improved education outcomes for First Nation, Métis and Inuit students. 

FNMI Services Branch leads a number of initiatives under Goal 3: Success for FNMI Students and provides support to provincial school jurisdictions, First Nation Education Authorities, Métis Settlements and other government departments and external education organizations on matters related to FNMI education. This includes professional development and providing information on collaboration, parent and community engagement, promising practices, assessment, school governance, and the development of curriculum and resources for FNMI learners.

The Aboriginal Policy Branch leads cross-ministry and intergovernmental work with FNMI organizations, leadership, and other government departments on initiatives under Goal 3: Success for FNMI Students.  This includes support for the Memorandum of Understanding for First Nations Education in Alberta, the FNMI Education Partnership Council, Action on FNMI Success, the Aboriginal Learner Data Collection Initiative and the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada.  The branch supports the department's collaboration and consultations with First Nation education authorities, Treaty organizations, the Métis Settlements General Council, the Métis Nation of Alberta, and Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, Canada.
