English as a Second Language

Review of K-12 ESL Education

In October 2004, Howard Research & Management Consulting Inc. was contracted by Alberta Education to study the factors that influence and predict academic success of ESL students, and to assist the Ministry with decisions related to curriculum development, resource allocation, and support provision. The study was also meant to address recommendations from Alberta's Commission on Learning. Data collection was completed in September 2005.

The results of the Review of K-12 ESL Education in Alberta report were shared with stakeholders and community groups through October 2006 information sharing sessions. Those groups were asked for feedback on a draft strategy for English as a Second Language in Alberta.
