Alberta's Wraparound Approach—Collaborating for Kids Video

A new video, Alberta's Wraparound Approach—Collaborating for Kids, can be viewed on the Alberta Education website. This introductory video, the first of an upcoming 11-part video series, is an overview of the 11 principles of wraparound as identified by a comprehensive literature review and provincial case studies in Alberta schools. All of the videos in this series will be complemented by facilitators' guides, which are expected to be completed later this fall.

This introductory video was developed to:

  • clearly articulate the emerging principles of a wraparound approach
  • begin to build a common understanding of wraparound
  • provide an opportunity for reflection on successes and challenges related to local supports and services for children, youth and their families
  • inspire and engage schools and community partners as they develop coordinated supports and services addressing the needs of vulnerable students and their families within the context of their school and community
  • build capacity for a wraparound approach between schools and their community partners.

A wraparound approach is supported by one of the strategic directions in the Setting the Direction Framework: Government of Alberta Response. Additional tools and resources are also under development to build capacity to support effective implementation of a wraparound approach. These include:

  • a web-based resource, including local case management processes and tools
  • professional capacity-building learning opportunities for school staff and their partners (done in partnership with the University of Alberta and the Alberta Teachers' Association).
