The following web guide is your straightforward approach to applying for teacher certification. It assumes that you are familiar with everything you need to know about teaching in Alberta. Follow the instructions below to ensure that you have a smooth application process.

To protect your privacy, the application form will time out if there is more than 30 minutes of inactivity, and the information entered will not be saved.
When you apply for Alberta certification for the first time, you must complete and submit your application online.
First, you must sign up online for an Alberta Education Account and enrol into the TWINS Teacher Self-Service system.
Please use Internet Explorer version 8 or higher to access the Teacher Registry Self Service website. If you have the right browser and experience access or submission problems, your computer security settings may be the cause. Update your browser first to ensure the best experience. To download the latest browsers, get the latest version of Chrome (multi-platform), Firefox (multi-platform), Internet Explorer (Windows 7/8/8.1), or Edge (Windows 10).

As part of the application, please be aware that there are non-refundable application fees you must pay. These fees are determined by the location of the post-secondary institution where you completed your teacher preparation program:
You may pay online through TWINS Teacher Self-Service with credit card (available now) or Visa debit card (available July 1st, 2016). If you bank in Canada, domestic cheques or money orders are acceptable if you either mail them or deliver them in person to the Teaching & Leadership Excellence office.
The preferred method of payment is online through TWINS Teacher Self-Service. Fees paid online will appear immediately in your application status within Teacher Registry Self-Service. Fees paid by cheque will take approximately 20-30 business days to process. Please note that we no longer accept international cheques.
