The following guide is your straightforward approach to applying for teacher certification; it assumes that you are familiar with everything you need to know about teaching in Alberta.
When you apply for Alberta certification for the first time, you must complete and submit your application online.
First, you must sign up online for an Alberta Education Account and enrol into the TWINS Teacher Registry Self-Service system. Instructions on how to sign up and use the TWINS Teacher Registry Self-Service are located here.
Tip: Please use Internet Explorer version 8 or higher to access the Teacher Registry Self Service website. If you have the right browser and experience access or submission problems, your computer security settings may be the cause. Update your browser first to ensure the best experience. To download the latest browsers, get the latest version of Chrome (multi-platform), Firefox (multi-platform), Internet Explorer (Windows 7/8/8.1), or Edge (Windows 10).
Note that the steps for applying for Alberta certification are different depending on where you completed your teacher preparation program. In other words, where did you graduate?
Before you begin, please be aware that there are non-refundable application fees you must pay. These fees are determined by the location of the institution where you completed your teacher preparation program:
