One of this government’s top priorities is providing Alberta’s students with a high quality education.
Through Budget 2016, despite the significant economic challenges facing the province, we are supporting our students by continuing to provide school authorities with stable funding. More specifically, we remain committed to funding enrolment growth; in other words, we continue to provide school authorities with funding for every Kindergarten to Grade 12 student.
In 2016/17 fiscal year, Education’s total consolidated budget is $9.8 billion. This includes $7.9 billion in consolidated operating expenses as well as $1.9 billion in capital commitments.
The $1.9 billion in school capital funding will be allocated for the construction of new schools, modernizations of existing schools, a robust modular classroom program, and capital maintenance and renewal funding to support the life-cycle management of existing schools.
