Our curriculum will be developed in three phases: Shaping, Developing and Implementing. We are collaborating with our education partners to take a look at our current curriculum. We are reviewing subject-specific, international research that includes information on how students learn. We are also reviewing provincial, national, and international information on where our students are achieving and where they are having challenges.
All of our work takes into account the results of stakeholder consultations over past years, previous research, and work we have done within school authorities, such as curriculum development prototyping, to help identify priorities for moving forward.
Alberta Education has worked with a number of education stakeholders to develop elements found within The Guiding Framework for the Design and Development of Kindergarten to Grade 12 Provincial Curriculum (Programs of Study). The Guiding Framework sets our direction as we work collaboratively with stakeholders to develop future curriculum. The Guiding Framework includes standards and principles that ensure a consistent approach to curriculum design and content.
