ESL Assessment

Schools will assess the student’s knowledge and abilities in English at the beginning of the school year or when the student arrives at school.

Teachers can select from a variety of assessment tools to determine the language proficiency and language learning needs of their English language learners. 

Many schools use the Alberta K-12 ESL Proficiency Benchmarks to help them determine the child’s or student’s proficiency in English and to monitor their progress.
