During fall 2017, Alberta Education, in partnership with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, launched the Think Globally Art Contest. By answering the question “What does Alberta’s Olympic and Paralympic spirit mean to you?” Alberta students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 explored the connected nature of the world and their place as members of a global community.
The PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games will take place in Gangwon Province, South Korea in February and March. Alberta’s oldest sister province relationship dating back to 1974 is with Gangwon. Through the art contest, students had the opportunity to reflect on Alberta’s international partnerships and illustrate their support for Canada’s participation in the games
As international education expands our worldview, art helps us reflect on and explore our connection with the world, using the power of creativity to visually convey our thoughts.
The top selected artwork will be on display at the Alberta Legislature Building from January 29 – February. 2, 2018. Student artwork may also be presented as gifts to visiting foreign delegations by the Government of Alberta.
