Every year, Alberta welcomes over 2,000 international students into its K – 12 education system.
Hosting international students provides a number of economic and social benefits for Alberta. This fact sheet summarizes an impact study conducted for Alberta Education in fall 2016. From an economic perspective, the study examines the direct and future financial impact of international students and the added impact of their visiting friends and relatives. Social benefits include helping to increase the acceptance of other cultures and ethnicities among students and in communities.
In a rapidly changing and increasingly interconnected world, international education helps students to build a global outlook and acquire international and intercultural knowledge, skills and awareness. Hosting international students will continue to provide positive benefits to Alberta, both economically and socially, with a projected sustained long term impact.
