The Education Act is new legislation that would replace the existing School Act upon proclamation. Regulations are still in development.
The Education Act specifies goals for Alberta’s Early Childhood Services to Grade 12 (ECS-12) education system and identifies the roles and responsibilities of the Ministry, school boards, charter schools, private schools, teachers, parents and students.
The Education Act and the draft regulations are currently under review by government. Further information will be posted when available.
In December 2014, 16 draft regulations were released by Alberta Education. These regulations are based on extensive input and review by Alberta ECS-12 education stakeholders.
Please note, these draft regulations are subject to change. They have not yet been approved by Cabinet and are provided as information only.
