Landmine
- Outcome C (7-9)-5&6
|
Dodging |
Before this event, prepare 30 "landmines" by numbering
30 yogurt lids from 1 to 30. Designate an area in the gym as a landmine
area. Use skipping ropes or a tug of war rope to encircle the area.
Scatter the yogurt lids face up (numbers showing) in the landmine
area so that none are touching and they are not in numerical order.
Have the students stand outside the ropes in their
teams as the teacher explains the task. The object of this game
is to turn over all the lids in consecutive order in the fastest
time. However, lids can only be turned over one at a time and only
one student can be inside the confined area at one time.
Students cannot touch the rope (the boundaries)
or any of the other land mines or they incur a 10 second penalty
for each infraction.
There are several methods to do this activity
and as long as the rules are followed, all methods are correct.
The idea is for the students to work together as a team; therefore,
all students should have a role during this activity. Consideration
may be given to dividing the class into 2 or 3 teams to increase
participation.
Use one quarter of the
gym for the first round.
Use half the gym for a
greater challenge.
Divide the students into
four groups, each with their own landmines. Designate students to
be timers at each site. This way, all the students are involved.
These
are clues that you have reached the outcomes ...
All students have a role and are
involved in this activity.
Students are using
inclusive language and respectful behaviour.
