I Do it My Way - Outcome B (7-9)-2

The best way to achieve a personal functional level of fitness is to choose activities that you like to do, that fit with your lifestyle preferences, but that also meet the components of fitness (strength, cardiorespiratory, endurance, flexibility). The first step is to look at what you already do - you may already have met the bulk of your fitness needs without even knowing it.

When developing a plan for active living, the following questions help students formulate the basic information needed to improve performance and enjoyment of their activity choices.

  • What do I like to do?
  • What components of fitness are important in that activity?
  • What can I do to improve my performance at that activity?

Physical Activity Challenge

This physical assessment activity is not a competition. The results are for the individual and not to be shared with other students in the class. The purpose is to identify areas of strength and areas for personal growth and improvement.

Your job is to keep track of the time, and call it out in regular intervals so the students can score themselves. Their job is to perform the challenge and determine their physical strengths and weaknesses. (You get off much easier than they do!)
