Activity/Teaching Strategies
   Skill Instruction:
1. Stationary hand-ball coordination exercises:
· Body circles:
Circle different parts of the body by passing the ball from hand to hand.
2. Dribbling positions (high low):
· Standing in a circle dribble the ball at waist height on the dominant hand side. Progressively change heights, hand and side of dribble, also dribbling from one hand to another.
3. Progressive cross over:
· Progress from cross over in front of body to under the leg cross over. Bounce ball directly under body, step forward enough to clear ball. If going from right to left, left leg forward and vice-versa.
4. Dribbling rules
· Double dribble: You cannot stop dribbling and then start again. Once you stop you must either pass or shoot.
· You cannot dribble with both hands simultaneously.
· Carry: If your hand comes completely under the equator of the ball during the dribbling motion this is called a carry and is a violation.
Drills:
1. Follow the leader:
· Lead the class around the gym in varying patterns dribble the whole time. Vary dribbling height, add crossovers and dribbling with non-dominant hand.
2. Dribble keep away:
· Each student has a ball, the object of the game is to knock, or otherwise make another player lose control of his or her ball. If a player loses control of their ball or commits a dribbling violation they must do either 5 pushups, crunches or jumping jacks.
