Activity/Teaching Strategies
As the kids come into the gym, count how many will be participating and hand them each a card from the deck of playing cards, the cards should have 2 red cards (hearts/diamonds) and the remainder should be black cards (spades/clubs). The two kids that get the red cards are the sharks and they come to center, the other kids are the whales and they stand at one end of the gym. On the command of the two sharks, who scream "WHALES" all the kids run from one end to the other, trying not to get tagged, if they are tagged they can become one of two things, 1. a SHARK or 2. SEAWEED. If they are a shark they must help the other sharks and if they are seaweed they are to sit on the floor waving their hands like floating seaweed in the ocean. If when kids run by and they are hit by the seaweed, then they become seaweed. the game is over when the last whale is tagged and the whole process starts again, however the two kids that were the first sharks do not have to be sharks again.
