Activity/Teaching Strategies
   1. Warm-Up: 5 jogging laps around the gym

2. Stretch: Introduce the importance of stretching and demonstrate with the students proper and safe stretching routines

3. Demonstrate the forward backward stride...What are the benefits to this position?

4. Demonstrate and have each student portray flexed knees and elbows...How does it feel to not flex your knees and elbows? What could happen?

5. Demonstrate the positioning of hands in preparation to set pass (the triangle)...What part of the hand do I contact the ball with? Why? How do I create momentum of the ball? Do I use only my wrists?

6. Safety Guidelines: no diving, there's lots of room in the large gym to spread out when working on specific skills, do not kick the ball, no net will be up today

7. Activity #1 (Demonstrate first):
-this activity focuses on hand positioning and follow-through
-get into partners; one lays on the floor with hands up in the air, properly positioned, with flexed elbows, and the other stands next to him and gently drops the ball into the hands; the partner on the floor slightly catches the ball, with elbows still flexed, and then pushes off to lift the ball up into the air; standing partner catches it and drops it again nine more times; switch
-TIP: KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE BALL & BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS!!!

Activity #2 (again, demonstrate):
-this activity focuses on the standing ready position, positioning of the hands,"getting underneath the ball", targeting and follow-through...What is follow-through?
-one students tosses the ball high up towards their partner (both about 8 feet apart from each other) and the other set passes the ball back; students may slightly catch and then push off; do this ten times and thne switch
-TIP: KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE BALL & BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS, PUSH OFF QUICKLY

Activity #3 (demo.):
-this activity focuses on teamwork and concentration
-now have the students, with their partner at about 8 feet apart, set pass to each other and count how often they can do this without dropping the ball
-TIP: KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE BALL & BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS, CONCENTRATE.

Close: ask all previous questions again as review; next class we will work on set passes again and also learn how to bump (forearm pass)
