Explain to the class that this is an individual event coming from the Inuit people and that it is quite challenging.
Warm up
Have the class engage in a regular gymnastic type warm up, involving stretching and exercise.
Body
Have each student sit and bend one leg (usually the non-dominant leg), in toward the inner thigh area. Now grasp the foot of that leg, over the top orf the ankle, with the opposite hand. The free hand will now be placed on the floor, close to the buttocks, where that arm will act as a post to support the weight of the student. The student will rise up and balance their weight on two points of contact, the free hand and the foot of the dominant leg. The object now is to use the dominant leg to kick up to an object suspended higher than their head and slightly infront of them. If the students are working in pairs it could be the hand of their partner. For the kick to be successful the student must not break their grip with the foot they are holding and they must land on the foot of the leg doing the kick after the kick is made. No other body parts can make any contact with the floor before the kicking foot makes contact. Have the class observe a demonstration and then try it on their own.
Culminating Activity
Allow each student at least three attempts at this one arm high kick. They must try to beat their own record each time they attempt to kick. Their partner will keep track. Each student is declared a seuccess, if they can match each kick or exceed the previous kick each time. Conclude with a gymnastic warm down.
