Line Dance Directions

As a culminating activity for the dance unit, have the students present their favourite dances to the rest of the class.

The students can choose to do an individual dance, a dance with a partner or a dance with a group. Group dances should be limited to six to eight people per dance title (e.g., six to eight students present the Virginia Reel or Slap Leather). Each student must perform in at least two dances of different types, such as a line dance and a novelty dance.

The student audience rates the presentations based on criteria such as enthusiasm, energy, choreography and style (e.g., costumes, variations).

The student audience watches and does not evaluate the dances.

Each physical education class works together as a class to present a minimum of 10 dances with each student having to perform a minimum of five dances.

Dividing the school by grade, organize a dance extravaganza. Invite guest judges to come and judge the dances of each Grade 7, 8 or 9 class.

See PDF file of invitation for judges, criteria for judging and a class list of examples of dances this age group can learn.
