This role will be from approximately September 1, 2018 to August 31, 2019. The service days per your collective agreement will be honoured, but there will be no guarantee of alignment with your school authority’s natural breaks.
The Education Consultant, Leadership Excellence, will be responsible for:
Promoting and building capacity around the implementation of the TQS, LQS and SLQS both internally (in our division, ministry) and externally (in the field with education stakeholders);
Assisting in the development, interpretation, and implementation of education related legislation, policies, regulations and department programs throughout Alberta;
Assisting in the implementation of the government's plan for education. Specifically, Business Plan Outcome 4 - Alberta has excellent teachers, school leaders and school authority leaders.
Ensuring the review and alignment of the new Teacher/Leader Growth, Supervision and Evaluation policy to the standards;
Providing leadership as a member of a team that provides provincial standards and program implementation support services to school leaders, school system leaders and education stakeholders;
Ensuring the sharing of research and information to support the ministry’s activities as they impact the implementation of expectations and standards specific to leadership roles at various levels both internal and external to the ministry;
Supporting the establishment of a leadership development program to support credentialing and certification of school and system leaders;
Leading the establishment of workforce planning initiatives that link the leadership development program to school authority recruitment needs;
Working directly with school leaders, school system leaders, education CEO's and trustees and communicating with external education stakeholder, partners and the public; and
Bringing expertise, skills, abilities, talents, background and knowledge to the identification, selection, development and production of high quality learning, teaching and leadership resources.
Guidance and assistance will be provided from the branch Director, project team leaders and other members of the branch. The Education Consultant will be expected to use field based expertise to inform sound decisions in regard to leadership development. Through the in-depth understanding of effective practices, the Education Consultant will determine the appropriate follow up actions in a variety of issue areas while working within applicable policies, regulation and practices.
A bachelor’s degree in Education or a Master’s degree.
A minimum of three years’ leadership experience within an ECS to Grade 12 education setting, preferably in the role of principal or central office leader
Knowledge of school programs, school system operations, and school system culture and leadership
Knowledge and experience in implementing policy and/or program changes within the ECS to 12 education setting
Experience in applying principles of effective practice in dealing with internal and external stakeholders, parents, and school community members
Knowledge of effective growth, supervision, and evaluation processes for teachers and school leaders.
