Beginning teachers, new teachers to Alberta and teachers who have upgraded their education qualifications must have their education qualifications evaluated for salary purposes.
The Teacher Qualifications Service at the Alberta Teachers’ Association is the agency responsible for evaluating a teacher's years of education for salary purposes. All public, separate, francophone school boards and some private school authorities accept evaluations issued by the Teacher Qualifications Service.
Teacher Qualifications Service does not issue salary assessments until teaching authority (certification) has been issued by Alberta Education.
School authorities determine the years of experience according to their own policies.
Any inquiries regarding salary assessments should be directed to the Teacher Qualifications Service at 780-447-9400 or 1-800-232-7208 or visit their website.
