If your name has changed, a request to update the teacher registry with your current legal name can be requested through Teacher Self-Service. Once confirmed, certificated teachers will be issued an updated teaching certificate at no charge.
Once your request has been submitted online the following documents must be submitted directly to the Office of the Registrar at Alberta Education:
Note: Documentation in a language other than English or French must be accompanied by an English or French translation along with the required statutory declaration form. Statutory declarations are not required if your translation was completed by an official translator.

Applicants and teachers are able to self-identify their First Nations, Métis and Inuit status through Teacher Self-Service. The question is voluntary and responses remain confidential.

This information will provide a baseline to measure the education system’s progress in attracting and retaining First Nations, Métis and Inuit people to the teaching profession. It will also help to identify gaps in the teacher workforce in Alberta and allow the education system to improve teacher workforce planning.
Personal information collected in TWINS is managed and protected by Alberta’s privacy laws, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act, the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), the School Act and Certification of Teachers Regulation. Data will be secured and protected by Alberta Education. School authorities and school staff will not be able to view the First Nations, Métis and Inuit indicator on a teacher’s record. Any reporting will be done on an aggregate basis only, such as for the province or a school authority as a whole, and individual teachers will not be identified.
