Stunning Stunts of Self-challenge
Decide with your teacher which
of these activities to complete:
- Look for role models who
exemplify teamwork and a cooperative nature. Research a gymnast who
exemplifies success through cooperation and a positive outlook. You
could do a book report, a movie review, or a biography in an essay form.
This does not have to be about someone famous. It could be about someone
you know, someone you look up to because of his or her accomplishments
in gymnastics.
- Communication is a tool
for positive interaction. Think of a question or questions that you
would like to ask about a gymnastics activity. Then communicate your
question/s, concerns or excitement to at least one other person. Do
they feel the same about gymnastics? Do they have a different perspective
or advice that could be helpful to you? Should you always take advice
that is offered to you? Should you always accept criticism that is offered
to you? How do you handle praise? What if nobody offered you feedback
about gymnastics? How would that affect your progress? How do you give
advice to others? Do you deliver advice in the same way you expect to
receive advice?
- How do you show cooperation?
Caring about rules, etiquette, and positive behaviour are ways that
show your respect for self and others. Do you follow rules when you
are participating at a local facility or in a gym? Do you share and
give others equal opportunity to participate and succeed? Do you share
equipment? Write a testimonial, or "advertisement" about yourself. You're
advertising all the best sportsmanlike qualities you have. Describe
how you demonstrate fair play, etiquette, and a respect for yourself,
other participants, and the activity itself. Get at least one person
to give you a quote about how or when you've demonstrated these qualities.
Show how you're working on your cooperation skills!
- Develop a Personal Active
Living Plan outlining your goals in this dimension. This is a first
step in showing your teacher or supervisor your positive attitude. Wanting
to help yourself become more active shows self-respect. The way you
approach gymnastics activities will also demonstrate respect for your
teacher's role in your program.
