Safety First
Right. You knew that. Just be sure to keep these safety tips in mind:

  1. Drink plenty of water before, during and after physical activity, especially in outdoor activities. Did you know that you can get a headache from being dehydrated? So bring along some water or a sport drink.
  2. Warm-up before, and cool down after participating in physical activity. Warming-up your muscles can be as easy as walking around or a slow jog. Focus on stretching in your cool downs.
  3. Wear the helmets should be used for cycling, inline skating, skating, hockey or broomball.
  4. Cover-up as needed to suit the weather conditions.
  5. Check your activity areas for hazards. Is the road slippery? Is your equipment in good order? It's not a good idea to go jogging at night or in lonely alleys.
  6. In multi-use areas, such as pathways that cyclists, in-line skaters, wheelers, and runners use, be aware of, and courteous to other users. Bicycles should be equipped with bells and in-line skaters should carry a whistle.
  7. When choosing activities be aware of the limitations you may have. You should choose activities that will not put you in danger. It specialized equipment is part of the activity, you should make sure you have instruction to ensure for safe use, e.g. kayaking, canoeing, wall climbing.
  8. Let your parents or guardians know which activity you have chosen to participate in. They are responsible for your safety however remember first responsibility rests with you.
