This
component of the physical education website is intended as a support
resource for home education students and their parents; students
enrolled in a blended program, or their teachers and school district
administrators.
Taking
physical education outside a local school requires demonstration
of learning at the end of the course. The way students demonstrate
learning of the outcomes is the responsibility of the monitoring
teacher employed by the supervising school district.
The intent
of this site is to provide ideas, activities, and examples of ways
to achieve the physical education outcomes, as well as providing
a monitoring tool called the "tracker". The tracker can be down
loaded to an individual computer desktop and used to track all physical
education activities. The information reports the tracker produces
can be e-mailed to the monitoring teacher for review.
Provincial
legislation requires students to achieve the program outcomes described
in the physical education Program of Studies. Monitoring achievement
of the outcomes may be challenging for home education students,
as teachers are not able to observe the student's skill level on
a regular basis.
For this
reason the "tracker" is based on a formula of time spent in each
dimension as opposed to specific skill development. The provincial
curriculum states that a variety of experiences be provided within
each of the dimensions which include alternative environment, dance,
games, types of gymnastics and individual activities.
It is
recommended that students spend a minimum of 75 hours towards the
achievement of the learning outcomes of the program, and demonstrate
experiences in all the dimensions.
