Pass it Tag - Outcome C (10-30)-5&6

This tag game should be played within the boundaries you set out at the beginning of the game. Select about four students to begin as "it". The "it" students wear a pinnie to identify them. The four students are given one ball to pass amongst themselves.

Catching

How to Play

  • The "it" students must use teamwork in order to corner one of the other players and tag them with the ball. Remind the students that the ball cannot be thrown at anyone; they must tag the person with the ball in their hands.
  • The "it" players cannot run with the ball. They must attempt to move to where the other players are when they don't have the ball in order to be close enough to tag them once they get the ball. Quick passing helps the teamwork.
  • Once a player is tagged with the ball they must put on a pinny and become one of the "it" team. This continues until there is only one player left.

All students on the "it" team should demonstrate positive behaviour by calling for the ball, moving to open spaces, and passing quickly and efficiently to help the team strategy work. Those who do not participate will not be a positive influence to the team.

Discuss team participation after the game during the stretching part of the warmup. Avoid pointing fingers at players who stood back and watched the rest of the "it" team work together.

Add another ball each time the "it" team grows by another four people.

Add various types of balls such as footballs, rugby balls, volleyballs, and even frisbees.

Use a sport specific ball such as a basketball, and allow only chest passes or bounce passes. Use a rugby ball and allow only passing back.

These are clues that you have reached the outcomes ...

Students learn to work together to accomplish the task. This is evident as the "it" team comes up with more efficient strategies as the game progresses.

Students can identify positive behaviours that helped the team to accomplish their task.

Students can discuss what they learned about teamwork in this game and how it applies to other teamwork situations.
