Putting Course - Outcome C (7-9)-3

Divide students into groups of four and explain that they are going to be setting up a putting course for the next class. Students have access to equipment from the equipment room. (Note: a class set of putters is needed for this lesson. Students can bring one from home if the school is not equipped.) They can be as creative as they want and use any type of equipment, keeping in mind the safety considerations of the class. The teacher marks out where each group will set up their hole for the putting course. Students should practice actually putting their hole before introducing it to the rest of the class.

Students will create a hazard, a tee box and a green with their corresponding hole. The holes should be recreated on paper so a scorecard can be created.

After the course is set up, have each group explain their hole and demonstrate the strategy. After the students have demonstrated their course, explain that golf etiquette requires that each player is quiet when their golf mates are attempting a shot. Explain that golf requires concentration and that a quiet environment can often help a golfer execute the proper shot.

These are clues that you have reached the outcomes ...

Students exhibit respectful behaviour when teammates are putting. The gym is relatively quiet for this lesson.
