Turtle Tag
- Outcome C (K-3)-3
Choose three to five children to be "Turtle
Hunters". Use pinnies or choose children with some common feature
(e.g., blue shirts).
How to Play
- The Turtle Hunters are "it" and must
try to tag the turtles.
- "Home free" position for a turtle is
lying on the back with legs and arms extended towards the ceiling
(like a turtle on its shell). The Turtle Hunter cannot tag a turtle
in this position, and cannot stand guard over the turtle.
- Turtles can use the "home free" position
only three times in the game and only for three seconds each time.
Turtles may be tagged before they are able to use their three
turtle "home free" positions.
- Once the turtles are tagged, they sit
down with their legs crossed on the spot where they were tagged.
(They now become obstacles for others to run around.)
- After sitting for a count of 10, the
turtles can re-enter the game.
- Children must be honest in using the
"home-free" position three times only.
Play this game using a different "home free"
position. Skunk tag is a similar game. Skunks hold their noses to
be "home free", but first the hand holding the nose must go under
the knee.
Locomotion steps could be varied (e.g., gallop,
skip, walk.)
Have the tagged turtles "limp" to a sideline and
perform three magic tuck jumps before they can return to the game.
