What's Doing it Daily All About?

Active living involves:

  • Effort
  • Safety
  • Goal Setting/Personal Challenge
  • Active Living in the Community

Make It a Community Thing

Individual activities are just that - activities designed so you can do them by yourself. However, you don't have to do them alone. Team up with someone and do them together if you like.

Okay, so you're wondering, "Where do I start?" As well as asking your teacher for guidelines, look into these opportunities:

  1. Make a list of local physical activity resources. Venues that may be available to you include:
    • community centres and fitness facilities,
    • pools,
    • parks,
    • school gyms,
    • playgrounds,
    • skateboarding areas,
    • indoor malls for winter walking or wheeling,
    • golf courses - waterslides,
    • sports fields and cowfields,
    • anywhere else you can think of!
  2. Now go through the list and choose where you can do activities you enjoy. Ask yourself if these are areas within your reach. Do you have any special needs that must be met by the facility, such as wheelchair accessibility?
  3. Find out if these places have programs you can get involved in and afford. Do they have participation times that are convenient for you? Is getting there a problem? How are you going to overcome this obstacle? Pick one and give it a try!

Now make a list of three or four of these activity resources that you haven't used before. Pick one, and give it a try! Record on the comments section of the Tracker some of your experiences. What did you learn? What physical skills did you practice or develop? How do you feel about this activity?
