What's Out There?-
Outcome D (7-9)-8
After completing an aerobics or fitness training
unit, introduce the students to community recreational facilities
that offer these programs. Organize a field trip to the community
facility and participate in one or more of the activities that take
place during the day. These classes could include (but are not limited
to) aerobics, aquasize, weight training, or yoga.
When the class returns from the community facility,
ask the students to complete a "Community Use Form". This
completed form will be put on a bulletin board outside the gym so
that other students in the school are aware of community programs
suitable for teens.

Community Use
Form |
If your community does not have a recreational
facility of this type, contact your local recreation director and
ask if a fitness or activity leader could be sent to the school
to provide a sample class or information related to an existing
community activity.
If you are unable to attend during the regularly
scheduled physical education class, try to arrange a field trip
and spend the entire day learning how to use all aspects of the
recreational facility (e.g., weight room, swimming pool, squash
courts).
For communities without recreational facilities,
participate in activities of a "non-sporting" nature such
as going to a local farm and helping bring in the cattle without
the use of horses or machines! Or have the students help with stacking
bales or cleaning corrals so they understand that physical activity
is not limited to sport.
These are clues that you have reached the outcomes
...
Students are aware of programs outside the school that encourage
active living.
