Kicking |

Rat and Phil on Fundamental Skills
|
Students should have learned
basic rugby kicking and catching skills before attempting this activity.
Divide the students into
teams. Keep in mind that the smaller the teams, the more ball handling
there is and the smaller the field should be.
|
If
possible, use a rugby or football field to play on. Divide the
field for safety as needed. For example, divide the field in
half lengthwise if two games are being played at the same time. |
How to Play
- Teams move the ball
by kicking it down the field.
- If an opposing player
catches the ball in the air, that player can take 10 steps before
kicking the ball towards the goal.
- If the ball hits the
ground, the opposing team gets the ball and kicks it from where
they picked up the ball.
- Teams continue to kick
and catch until they get close enough to kick the ball between
the uprights of the rugby or football posts. A goal is worth three
points.
- The team scored against
gets the ball at the 30 yard line and begins kicking again.
The game can continue for
a specific time or score.
Incorporate two balls for
more ball contact.
Use a football instead
of a rugby ball.
If youre playing
on a smaller field, or one without uprights, then have the team
run the ball over the end line to score three points. (Use a 10
step rule.) This variation also works with smaller team numbers.
