Who's the Leader
- Outcome C (4-6)-4
Students form a circle. One student, who is chosen
to be "it", stands in the middle of the circle. The "it" student
closes their eyes while the teacher chooses someone to be the leader.
How to Play
- The leader starts a repetitive movement
such as clapping hands, stomping feet, or snapping fingers. The
rest of the group joins in imitating only the selected movement.
- The teacher tells the student in the
middle to open their eyes once everyone is doing the movement
together.
- The leader changes the movements whenever
the student in the middle is facing away from the leader.
- The student in the middle has to try
to guess who the leader is. If the student in the middle guesses
correctly the first time, the student in the middle and the leader
change places.
- If the guess is incorrect, the activity
continues. The student in the middle has one to three guesses.
Students try not to give the leader away by staring or pointing.
- The movements do not stop unless the
teacher says "stop" or until the student in the middle has no
more guesses left.

At the end of the activity, discuss the
qualities of a good leader. Also discuss the qualities of
a good follower.
- How did you feel when you were "it"?
- Is this activity successful if people
don't follow the rules?
- What should you do if you know someone
is not following the rules?
- How do you feel when others don't follow
rules?
