Different Strokes - Different Folks - Outcome B (K-3)-4

Choose a variety of activities or games from cardiorespiratory, strength and flexibility categories. Describe the different games and set up areas in the gym where students can play safely. Let the students decide which areas they want to play in.

After 15 minutes have them change stations. Make sure they rotate through all the activities.

While you are doing your cool down exercises, open the discussion with your students. Ask these discussion questions: Why did you choose the first activity? Why do you like that game? Why are you good at it?

Help the students identify that different people are good at different things, and that different activities require different physical attributes. Finding what you like to do may be as easy as finding out what you are physically suited to doing. But don't let your body attributes stop you from trying other things. All aspects of fitness affect performance and all can be improved with practice.

Climbing a rope demands strength.
Touching your toes demands flexibility.
Running laps needs strong heart and lungs.
-
cardiorespiratory endurance

All activity requires an "I can" attitude and no matter what the demands of an activity, or the attributes of the student, the most important teaching message to deliver is the "you can do it " message.
