Being regularly active in hiking, cycling, or any of the other activities in this or other dimensions will certainly help you towards having a positive body image. Once you see what those legs, arms, shoulders, stomach or back of yours can do, you'll be a lot more accepting of them. They're part of your personal physical family. Be proud!

Self-change, Self-challenges

Decide with your teacher which of these activities to complete:

  1. What makes alternative environments different from other dimensions such as games or dance? What benefits to your health can you achieve in this dimension that you don't receive by participating in other activities? Write this out and decide with your teacher how you would share this information. For example, you may want to put it into a journal.
  2. Does this activity help you to feel good? How do you feel at the end of 30 minutes of really vigorous activity? Do you have some muscles that are telling you that you worked hard? Do you need to strengthen them? What activities can you find that will help to focus on those weak muscles? Can you find Internet sites to assist you? Now put some of these activities into practice. How will you know when you are getting stronger? more flexible?
  3. Invent a water game using at least one object (ball, pool noodle, floating mat). Try to have at least one other person involved. The game must be able to be played for at least 10 minutes of a 30-minute activity session. Identify a challenge that must be overcome as part of the game. How can you make this more difficult? How do you feel if the game is too hard? Too easy? Now make a plan to adjust the activity to meet the needs of your personal fitness level. Assess yourself. How would you know which body part needs help? Do you need to look at ways of getting stronger in your upper or lower body? Look at the individual activities dimension for methods of strength training. This activity will help you to reach both general outcomes "A" (Activity) and "B" (Benefits to Health)
  4. Discuss with a buddy why you think competitive swimmers would be tempted to take performance-enhancing drugs. What are your thoughts on these drugs?

Always remember that it's not whether you win or lose, but how your health will benefit that matters. So keep moving for the health of it!
