Self-help, Self-challenges

Decide with your teacher which of these activities to complete:

  1. Develop a long-range plan on how to expand your current aquatic experiences. What barriers do you need to overcome to be able to become better at this activity?

  1. Choose an activity in which you can develop an obstacle course. Perhaps set a climbing wall course or create a cross country ski course. Or try to design a walking course that takes you over all sorts of neighborhood obstacles. Now set a goal for yourself for one week. How many times can you participate in this activity this week, or even this month? Use the Tracker to record your participation. How did you feel? What can you do to make the activity more enjoyable? Try bringing along a friend and wearing warmer clothes. Don't forget to take along water and sunglasses.
  2. Set a goal as to how far or fast you can ski, skate, wall climb, walk, etc. Record your time and distance to see if you can achieve this goal. Try this activity again in a few days. Can you beat your previous goal? How did it feel?
  3. Make a map of all the locations in your community where you could participate in an alternative environment activity. How many can you visit? Is there a cost factor? Transportation issues? List the barriers to using some of the facilities. Use your mental muscle to brainstorm ways around these obstacles.
  1. Go for a swim / snorkel / scuba dive - just for the fun of it! This is the time to pick an activity you have never tried before. Be bold! But also be wise and safe.
  2. Make one small decision on how to make your lifestyle healthier. Choose any small decision about your life that you can do today. It might mean getting in two glasses of milk instead of one. Or getting up off the couch and moving around for five minutes. The important thing is to follow through. Tomorrow make another small decision. Keep building.
