Reciprocal Bird Dance - Outcome C (K-3)-1

While half the class is creating a movement pattern to be put to music, teach the other half of the class a simple novelty dance such as the "Bird Dance".

If another supervisor is present, try to teach the dance somewhat privately so that the other half of the class cannot easily view the activity. Have the children practice until they can do the dance comfortably on their own.

Invite the other half of the class back and have them partner up with one of the "bird dancers". Tell the "bird dancers" that they are now teachers and must teach their partner how to do the Bird Dance. Allow sufficient time for the children to work with their partners and practice. Circulate and help only those who are having difficulty.

At the end of class, have everyone attempt the dance to music.

Learn the dance as a class, and then invite another class in so the students can teach them the dance.

This activity could also be done with a simple game. For example, Grade 3 students could teach the Kindergarten students.
