Ice Cream Walk

Have the children help you determine the distance
to the nearest ice cream store where they could buy cones. Figure
out how many laps of the gym or the field outside would equal the
distance to the ice cream store. Once a week, have all the children
take part in a walking activity. Use a wall chart to keep track
of the distance walked, and clearly mark the goal.
Once the goal is reached, bring in cones and ice
cream for the children to enjoy.
Tabulate individual laps from each child to reach
the total or decide that all children must complete the distance.
The goal could be a swimming pool or park (with
a visit to the pool or park as the reward) or whatever you and your
class decide on.
