Feel
The Beat - Outcome B (K-3)-7
Teach
your students to feel the beat of their heart. They just have to
put a hand over their chest and take note of the beating. The objective
is not to take a heart rate (count beats per minute), but only to
get a general sense of how fast their hearts beat. By placing their
hand over their heart, students will get a sense of the beating
speed of a resting heart and working heart.
Now
have your students walk the course (Walk on
the Wild side) or participate in some other "huffing and puffing"
activity. Then ask them to feel their heart again.
|
Can
they feel an increase? Are they breathing more quickly? Ask
them why it is a good idea to get breathing faster and get their
heart beating faster on a regular basis. Explain the cumulative
benefits of aerobic exercise and the importance of regular exercise
on the heart and lungs. |
