Take The Treasure Relay - Outcome A (4-6)-2

Ensure that students have had a proper warmup. Link to the warmup from the main page.

Establish a start line and a far line. Have the students form groups of three at the starting line. At the far line place an equal number of objects (bean bags, sponges, rubber chickens) across from each group.

How to Play

  • All the students get on their hands and knees to form individual bridges, side by side at the starting line. Player 1 is closest to the starting line, followed by Player 2 to the right, and then Player 3. On the signal "go", Player 1 runs to the far line, picks up one object, runs back, crawls under the other two bridges, places the object in a nearby hoop or basket, and returns to form a bridge next to Player 3.
  • While Player 1 is running to the far line, Players 2 and 3 shift over so that Player 2 is next to the start line.
  • Once Player 1 has formed a bridge next to Player 3, it is Player 2’s turn to perform the running sequence.
  • Player 3 follows once Player 2 is done and so on until all of the objects have been collected and returned to the hoop or basket.

Vary the way students select groups (e.g., same birth months, same colour of eyes, favorite ice cream flavour).

Vary the way students go to get the object (e.g., skip, gallop, hop, walk, crawl).

Vary the action used when retrieving the object to include a manipulative action, e.g., [A (4-6)-5] throw and catch to yourself while moving.

These are clues that you have reached the outcomes ...

Students are able to run with control and pick up the object without losing their balance.

Students can vary their locomotor patterns with control for a sustainable distance (the length or width of the gymnasium).

Students are able to consistently perform a relay with teammates (Teamwork).
