School
Hustle - Outcome A (7-9)-8
The goal of this activity is to have students
create a dance sequence that can be named after the school (e.g.,
Holy Family Hustle, Milton Williams Mambo). Have the students work
in groups of two to six. Try for a mix of genders, if applicable.
Give the students a pre-determined measure of
music to work with. Have them create part of a dance routine using
basic locomotor patterns (e.g., run, walk, leap, jump, kick, slide,
bend, turn, twist) in sets of four to eight counts.
Now ask the students to create patterns of four
to eight counts using line dance steps (walking forward and back,
turn steps, and step-touches).

Or, have the students choose partner routines (jive, Lindy, rock
step) to create a dance pattern that can be repeated by their peers.
Students present their dance sequence to the class
and then teach the rest of the class.
After all the performances, decide on how to combine
all the dance sequences into one dance routine.
Present routines to the whole school during a
talent show or assembly.
Arrange for the students to work with a local
elementary school to teach their dances to younger students.
These are clues that you have reached the outcomes
...
